Years ago, with my late husband Bob, I attended a Longmont City Council meeting, where a laundromat, gas station, and BBQ joint were proposed to be built in the area we all know and love as Roger’s Grove Park.
Imagine today if that development had happened. Later, another development was proposed — ill-planned, and not benefiting our town as a whole. The power of civic engagement was instilled in me early on, but voicing our concerns directly to the city council proved to Bob and I back then, that we weren’t alone. We joined other voices to protect the vibrancy of a Longmont neighborhood, and thankfully, another bad idea did not prevail.
Being one of the earliest and loudest voices, my engagement expanded to speak on behalf of protecting Longmont’s environment, as well as being deeply involved in the movement to bring rail to Longmont, attending many “Public Invited to be Heard” council segments on Tuesday nights. My efforts continue to this day, having been elected to Longmont City Council in 2016, and then as Mayor in 2021.
I am honored to serve the residents of Longmont.

During the eight years I have been on council, the residents of Longmont have voiced their opinions on the type of amenities they want in their city — and the list is long! A survey with many choices was launched in February of this year, in order to decide which amenities the city should pursue. City council chose three: a branch library, an arts & entertainment center, and a recreation center. City staff worked tirelessly to give a transparent cost of each one. It took a majority vote of council to put these 3 ballot questions on your Nov. 7 ballot. Now it’s up to the residents to vote yea or nay on each question.
Even before I was elected, I committed concerted effort toward advocating for Longmont's unhoused population. I came to understand that for our city, this is not an issue that can be addressed within a vacuum. Even before I was elected, I committed concerted effort toward advocating for Longmont's unhoused population. I came to understand that for our city, this is not an issue that can be addressed within a vacuum. While on council, I created a small working group to research alternatives and best practices, visiting other cities and studying their efforts. Ultimately, the homelessness working group made a presentation to city staff, and together, the group and city staff invited members of the faith community to enlist ideas and discuss possibilities moving forward. This critical work continues, and with the interest generated through these discussions, coalitions have formed to continue working on the unhoused in our city.
Micro-transit: As Mayor, I supported transitioning to a shared ride service covering all of Longmont to augment our Ride Free buses (RFB). With the $400,000 grant from RTD (Regional Tranportation District), the city is moving forward with an RFP for a shared ride vendor.
RTD and FasTracks: I have tirelessly worked on getting the FasTrac

RTD and FasTracks: I have tirelessly worked on getting the FasTracks Northwest Corridor rail to Longmont for eight years. FasTracks is now solvent!
The Governor's office is researching different funding sources for RTD.
Still fighting for Longmont!
Front Range Passenger Rail: SENATE BILL 21-238 created the Front Range Passenger Rail district board. FRPR will run between Pueblo and Fort Collins. The FasTracks NW Corridor is the preferred alignment per the Governor for customers traveling to Union Station from Longmont. Spring or early summer, 2024 will be financing strategies between FRPR and RTD I am committed to an exit strategy from the RTD FasTrack vote if RTD doesn’t work toward what should have been a shared goal, beneficial to our city and to RTD.
